1936-09-16 Benny Lynch w co 8 (15) Pat Palmer, Shawfield Park, Glasgow, Scotland - GB. Referee: Jack Smith. In front of 40,000 fans, Palmer (112) did reasonably well up until the seventh round when the champion’s body attacks began to take their toll, but he was saved by the bell after being downed by a left hook. Coming out for the eighth it was now just a matter of time and after Lynch (111¼) landed a left hook to the solar plexus and followed up with another, this time to the jaw, Palmer took the full count. On 14 November it was announced that Lynch would be meeting Small Montana, the NBA champion, in a match that would decide the flyweight championship everywhere but within the confines of the IBU.
