1937-01-01 Freddie Steele w pts 10 Gorilla Jones, The Auditorium, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - NY/NBA. Referee: Jim Keefe. Making his first defence, Steele (157) won all but one round following what was a slow start and in the seventh made his extra speed pay off when he dropped Jones (153) for ‘three’ with a cracking right hand. It was the first time that the former champion had been floored and working away with both hands, Steele proved far too slick as he walked off with the unanimous decision. The referee’s scorecard was 59-41.
