1937-02-21 Sixto Escobar w pts 15 Lou Salica, Escambron Beach Baseball Park, San Juan, Puerto Rico – NY/NBA. Referee: Jack Dempsey. In what was Puerto Rico’s first world title fight, there was no let-up in the action as both boys went at it from start to finish like gamecocks. Although the unanimous decision favoured Escobar (117½), who suffered an injured right eye, there were no knockdowns, and the challenger, Salica (116¾), was always in the fight. There was never much between them, despite Salica taking the engagement at short notice.
