1938-02-19 Maurice Holtzer drew 15 Maurice Dubois, Electoral Building, Geneva, Switzerland - IBU. Referee: Mario Del Fante. According to fight reports available, Holtzer was extremely lucky to hold on to his laurels in this one, having elected for a kayo and leaving it very late to catch up the points. It was only when he picked up speed in the remaining five rounds to get his boxing going that he caught up with Dubois, who felt he had done enough earlier to deserve the judges’ verdict. During an international boxing convention held in Rome, Italy in April 1938, which was attended by many leading authorities within the sport, the IBU agreed to refuse to recognise all individually-made world champions, including their own Maurice Holtzer, in an effort to stand by one universally acknowledged champion.
