1938-10-17 Joey Archibald w pts 15 Mike Belloise, St Nicholas Arena, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NY. Referee: Arthur Donovan. Fighting to decide the NYSAC version of the title, six times the fighters landed over the ropes on to the ring supports and 11 times one or the other were outside the ring or over the ropes. This was not the Belloise (125¼) of old following his serious illness and Archibald (124¾), hunting the body, exacted the most punishment in the area where the former’s rib was removed, thus tiring his rival out and forcing him on the defensive. Despite showing signs of his former cleverness, and getting back into the fray here and there, Belloise was unable to do enough to effect the majority decision in Archibald’s favour.
