1939-11-17 Lou Salica w pts 10 Tony Olivera, Legion Stadium, Los Angeles, California, USA - CALIFORNIA. Referee: Abe Roth. Way out in front at the halfway stage and going for a kayo, Salica (117¼) looked as though he would be the easy winner of a contest recognised in California as being for the vacant world title. However, the fiery Olivera (115½) came on like a house on fire when snatching the latter rounds to make it a close-run thing on the referee’s scorecard. Prior to the fight taking place, Olivera was unbeaten in 37 contests.
