1939-12-11 Henry Armstrong w rtd 7 (10) Jimmy Garrison, The Arena, Cleveland, Ohio, USA - WORLD. Referee: Benny Leonard. This was Armstrong’s 12th world championship fight, which included a lightweight title defence, in a year and is a record that will probably never be beaten. Although Garrison (141) put up a good fight, there was no doubt that Armstrong (138¾) would beat him for the second time in two months, especially after he connected heavily in the third round with overarm lefts and rights. Garrison, who had his left eye cut in the fourth and his right eye damaged in the sixth, was gradually being beaten up and it came as no surprise when he was floored by a right swing to the jaw in the seventh. On getting up in a bad way and being met by a flurry of blows, his corner threw in the towel and the fight came to an end after 79 seconds of the session had elapsed.
