1940-04-26 Henry Armstrong w rsc 7 (15) Paul Junior, The Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA - WORLD. Referee: Johnny Martin. Twice knocked down in the first, Junior (141) came roaring back throwing terrific right hooks that rocked the champion time and again in the second, and continued his bombardment into the third to even up the round. Thereafter, it was Armstrong (139½) who made the running, despite Junior being dangerous when tearing in with uppercuts and hooks, and he continued to throw punches galore. In the sixth, when it was apparent that Junior was wilting, after being put down for ‘nine’ he bravely fought on into the seventh where he was dropped again before being rescued by the referee on the 1.05 mark. Had the referee not made the stoppage when he did, Junior would have almost certainly suffered the first knockout of his career.
