1940-05-08 [[Jimmy Perrin]] w pts 15 [[Bobby Ruffin]], Municipal Auditorium, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - LOUISIANA. Referee: Red Dolan. Having been recognised as champion in Louisiana, this would be the first defence for Perrin (126) and he took the first ten rounds, landing strong left jabs and hooks without any concern for the challenger’s much vaunted power. Although Ruffin (126) cut loose in the final third of the fight, Perrin countered well and moved at speed to well deserve the unanimous decision.
