2 December Lou Salica w rsc 3 (15) Small Montana, Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Canada - WORLD. Referee: Billy Burke. Despite The Ring magazine reporting that it was only a portion of the title that Salica (118) was defending, the Brooklynite soon got down to work, his second right-hand blow to the body flooring Montana (114), who was then decked a further ten times before being rescued by the referee at 1.30 in the third round. Surprisingly, in between the knockdowns the challenger outboxed Salica, making him miss badly. Following a post-fight investigation and X-rays, which showed no sign of fractured or broken ribs, the doctor advised that it was a torn muscle which had caused Montana’s downfall.
