1941-11-18 Jackie Wilson w pts 12 Richie Lemos, Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - NBA. Referee: Benny Whitman. Following in the wake of Chalky Wright, Wilson (125½), another veteran, finally got his hands on a title when outscoring Lemos (125¾), who had been well beaten in eight of the 12 rounds contested. Executing a great left jab and smart footwork, enabled the challenger to keep out of harms way against the body attacks that epitomised Lemos’ work and even when the latter switched to southpaw he was measured with long right hands. When Wilson received the unanimous decision it was no more than he deserved, but Lemos would have another chance 28 days later.
