1943-01-18 Jackie Callura w pts 15 Jackie Wilson, Arcadia Hall, Providence, Rhode Island, USA - NBA. Referee: Tim Ferrick. Contested in a 16’ ring, it suited Callura (125½), a rough, tough battler, more than it did the 32-year-old Wilson (125¼), who had been out of the ring for more than ten months after breaking a hand, and the challenger certainly made it pay as he swarmed all over the latter from the opening bell. The fight had originally been booked to take place on 23 March 1942, but Wilson’s injury had scuppered that from happening and Callura had managed to put another 11 fights under his belt, losing four and drawing one of them. As a fighter who did not believe in taking a backward step, Callura continually rushed the man from Arkasas and three times both men were on the floor together before the fight went its course and he duly received the unanimous decision.
