1943-02-28 David Kui Kong Young drew 15 Rush Dalma, The Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii - TBC. Referee: Allan Dodd. Scorecards: 79-78, 81-84, 78-78. At the conclusion of the first 15-round contest on Hawaiian soil, and one that was recognised by the Territorial Boxing Commission as being for their version of the world title, Dalma (118) appeared to be the victim of a diabolical decision. Forcing the fight every round, outboxing, outgaming and outpunching the southpaw champion throughout, the little Filipino could not have done more. Young (118), who was badly cut under the left eye in the fourth, and at times appeared bewildered, paced himself poorly while making no impression with his much vaunted left.

Regardless of the manner of Young’s performance, the TBC continued to support him as their champion on the grounds that Manuel Ortiz had refused to come to Hawaii to defend against the local man.
