1944-03-10 Sal Bartolo w pts 15 Phil Terranova, The Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA - NBA. Referee: Johnny Martin. Having won all nine contests since unsuccessfully challenging Willie Pep for the NYSAC title, Bartolo (126) was given a crack at Terranova (125¼) for the NBA version and surprised many by walking off with the unanimous decision. Reported as a nip-and-tuck affair, with Bartolo boxing off the back foot as well as leading, the challenger showed good ability in outscoring and at times outpunching the hard-hitting Terranova, who went down fighting to finish with his left eye closed and a swollen face but not subdued.
