1944-06-11 Rush Dalma w pts 12 David Kui Kong Young, The Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii - TBC. Referee: Allan Dodd. Scorecards: 66-63, 62-61, 64-64. Although he was behind at the halfway stage, Dalma, badly cut on the left eye in the first session, came on strongly in the last three rounds to just about earn the split decision over Young, his infighting having influenced the judges. The TBC champion’s heavier punching had taken him into a clear lead, but he lost ground by his inability to follow up openings while looking to land single shots.

Dalma moved up in weight before retiring just two fights later.

Meanwhile, despite losing to Manuel Ortiz (l co 7 at The Stadium, Honolulu on 12 July 1946) in a catchweight contest, Young went on to beat Luis Castillo (w pts 12 at the same venue on 9 August 1946) in a world title eliminator to land The Ring magazine’s number-one rating.
