1946-09-04 Ike Williams w co 9 (15) Ronnie James, Ninian Park, Cardiff, Wales - NBA. Referee: Moss Deyong. In a one-sided bout at the Cardiff City football ground, Williams (134¾) quickly took measure of the game Welshman, who very early on found there was no way through the long arms of the champion as he tried everything he knew to prise an opening. Early in the seventh it could be seen that Williams was looking for a conclusion and he put James (134½) down for ‘nine’ with a cracking left hook. For the rest of the round James took a battering, but it was far worse in the eighth when he took three long counts after being knocked down by potent rights, termed bolo punches, which landed under the heart. He somehow got through the remainder of the session, only to be dropped heavily three more times in the ninth, the last of which saw him take the full count as he struggled to get to his feet. The finish was timed at 2.41.
