1946-11-26 Bob Montgomery w co 8 (15) Wesley Mouzon, Convention Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NY/PENN. Referee: Charley Daggert. Having been knocked out inside two rounds by the 19-year-old Mouzon (132¾) in a non-title fight three months earlier, the champion had plenty to prove and this time he warmed up in the dressing room for fear of being taken out early. Setting a blistering pace, Mouzon took the first three rounds with solid jabs and hooks before Montgomery (135) began to see the fruits of his relentless work on the body in the fourth. Subsequently, with ‘The Bobcat’ bobbing and weaving his way to close quarters, Mouzon’s fate was sealed and it was the infighting that ultimately decided the result. In the eighth, having crowded the lanky Mouzon into a corner and ripping in heavy blows to the body, Montgomery shifted his attack upstairs and a series of lefts and rights followed by a left hook, saw the former hanging across the bottom rope being counted out at 2.18 of the session.
