1950-04-25 Terry Allen w pts 15 Honore Pratesi, The Arena, Harringay, London, England - EBU/NY. Referee: Moss Deyong. Initially unsupported by the NBA as a championship contest, the Association eventually gave their blessing to the winner on the proviso that Dado Marino, despite regularly fighting among the bantams and sustaining three losses in seven contests during 1949, should be considered as the leading challenger and that the winner should meet him in defence of the title with the least possible delay. The fight itself not only saw Allen (111¾) excel at long range to keep the onrushing, flailing Pratesi (110) at bay, but always being prepared to get inside when required. He was almost punch-perfect throughout and fully deserved the verdict handed out by the referee. Pratesi, however, fared less well, dying two days after being outpointed over ten rounds by South Africa’s Jake Tuli at the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London on 4 November 1952, having collapsed following the fight.
