1950-08-25 Sugar Ray Robinson w co 1 (15) Jose Basora, The Stadium, Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA - PENNSYLVANIA. Referee: Johnny Kelly. Making the first defence of the Pennsylvanian version of the world title, Robinson (154¾) made quick work of Basora (159¾) after setting up an immediate attack from the opening bell. Dropped twice, the second time for ‘nine, Basora was an open target and a couple of left hooks to the head followed by a solid right to the head saw him counted out with just 52 seconds on the clock.
Carl Bobo Olson would be Robinson’s next opponent. Rated at number ten by The Ring magazine, Olson had won 41 of 44 contests, losing only to George Duke, Boy Brooks, which were reversed, and Dave Sands, the sensational Australian. A pressure fighter with stamina to spare and good punching ability he had beaten Bobby Jones, Anton Raadik, Tommy Yarosz, Milo Savage, Earl Turner and Henry Brimm before getting the chance to meet Robinson.
