1950-10-26 Sugar Ray Robinson w co 12 (15) Carl Bobo Olson, Convention Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - PENNSYLVANIA. Referee: Charles Daggert. Setting himself up for a contest with Jake LaMotta for the universally recognised title, Robinson (158) successfully defended the Pennsylvanian version of the championship when knocking out Olson (159) on the 1.19 mark in round 12. Although Olson was not in Robinson’s class he plugged away despite lacking the speed with which to put the latter under pressure and prior to the 11th round he had probably shared just two sessions. In the 11th, Robinson, who had been happy to pile up points from long range, had a round taken away for inadvertently going low, but in the 12th he stepped up the pace with stunning consequences for Olson. Having smashed in a terrific left to Olson’s jaw, as the latter was sagging Robinson drove in a tremendous right to the body that brought the contest to a conclusion.
