1953-04-24 Jimmy Carter w rsc 4 (15) Tommy Collins, The Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA - WORLD. Referee: Tommy Rawson. After two rounds of skilful boxing it was ominous that Carter (134¼) was merely sizing up Collins (133¾) and in the third when he began to blast home punches from both hands to head and body the latter was sent crashing seven times in all before being allowed to answer the bell to start the fourth in a helpless state. With his left eye badly damaged and hardly able to stand, Collins bravely stepped up to the plate until having been relentlessly chopped down a further three more times the referee decided to bring the fight to a halt on the 2.28 mark. He was already counting over Collins for the tenth time when the latter’s seconds jumped into the ring and it was only their action that caused the count to stop when it did.
