1953-06-09 Randy Turpin w pts 15 Charles Humez, White City Stadium, Shepherds Bush, London, England - GB. Referee: Andrew Smythe. Fighting in safety-first mode it was not a vintage performance by Turpin (160), but he had far too much for the tough, courageous Humez (159½) in a contest that saw him win the British version of the world title. Several times throughout the contest, Turpin hurt Humez badly and even in the 11th when he had the Frenchman over from a left hook he allowed his man to recover. Despite all of that, Turpin, who claimed afterwards that he had jarred his right in the opening session, was never under pressure and won virtually every round on his way to the referee’s decision.
