1955-05-30 Pascual Perez w co 5 (15) Yoshio Shirai, Korakuen Stadium, Tokyo, Japan - WORLD. Referee: Haruo Ishiwatarido. A battered wreck that was once a world champion, Shirai (111½), who had been given a real working over, was counted out at 2.59 of round five immediately prior to the bell. It had been Perez (108¼) all the way and Shirai announced his retirement afterwards. On a number of occasions, Perez risked being stripped when allowing his opponent to make less than eight stone without contractual conditions in place. One such fight was when he outpointed Danny Kid (111¼) over ten rounds at the Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina on 22 October.
