1958-01-21 Virgil Akins w rsc 12 (15) Tony DeMarco, The Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MASSACHUSETTS. Referee: Eddie Bradley. The return bout between the pair saw DeMarco (147) going well in the early stages before tiring and becoming a target for the hard-punching Akins (147). Down in the eighth round from a hard left to the jaw and floored twice in the 11th, DeMarco was staggered by a tremendous right to the jaw in the 12th prior to being rescued by the referee at 1.53 of the session.

Following Akins v DeMarco (2), the semi-final legs of the elimination tournament saw Akins kayo Isaac Logart inside six rounds at Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York on 21 March 1958, while Vince Martinez drew a bye into the final.
