1959-08-10 Pascual Perez w pts 15 Kenji Yonekura, The Gym, Tokyo, Japan - WORLD. Referee: Joaquin Arvas. Scorecards: 150-137, 145-139, 146-140. Dominating the fight, having floored his rival for a 'seven' count in the second round, Perez (107½) again proved his amazing powers of stamina and clever strategy. Yonekura (111¾), who was cut over the right eye in the sixth, tried his utmost, landing some heavy punches, but it was not enough to win the championship.

Tough and willing, and a good puncher with 31 wins in 39 contests, Sadao Yaoita would be Perez’s next opponent. Having already beaten Perez in a non-title fight, along with men such as Kyo Noguchi, Hitoshi Misako, Masaji Iwamoto and Yonekura, Yaoita was fancied by many of his countrymen to emulate Yoshio Shirai.
