1960-06-10 Paul Pender w pts 15 Sugar Ray Robinson, The Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA - NY/EBU. Referee: Jim McCarron. Scorecards: 149-138, 147-142, 144-146. Just as before, the fight followed the same pattern, with Robinson (158½) trying to knock Pender (160) out early and the latter biding his time as the former champion faded. Robinson gave it everything at the start, tearing into Pender and cutting his left eye in the second while he looked for the punch that could settle matters. One thing for sure, Pender proved his durability in sustaining these attacks, and from the sixth onwards he jabbed incessantly with the left as he dodged Robinson’s attacks, which became more sporadic as time went on. Towards the end, Robinson looked all of his 39 years, his punches having no sting in them while his legs looked likely to give way on him. Even though he desperately tried to turn things around in the 15th it was clear that he had nothing left on the clock.
