1960-12-03 [[Gene Fullmer]] drew 15 [[Sugar Ray Robinson]], Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - NBA. Referee: Tommy Hart. Scorecards: 9-5, 9-5, 4-11. Having knocked the champion out in their previous encounter, Robinson (158¾) was up for this one and fooled almost all of the critics when still fresh at the final bell. Although the opening two rounds went to Fullmer (159), the 39-year-old Robinson came right back with jolting rights and lefts to head and body in the third and he seemed to be well in control until the ninth when the champion threw everything at him. However, Robinson came right back in the 11th to have Fullmer wobbling, continuing in the same vein for the next three sessions, and while the latter won the last two rounds it was only the two judges who made it eight points each under California’s ‘simplified’ scoring system who stopped the old-timer from regaining the title for the sixth time.
