1962-10-17 Emile Griffith w pts 15 Ted Wright, City Hall, Vienna, Austria - AUSTRIA. Referee: H. De Bakker. Scoring repeatedly with left hooks to head and body, Griffith (149) was always in front of Wright (153) in a contest that was seen in Austria as involving the vacant title. Although Wright showed a good boxing brain and some smart moves he was never able to hurt Griffith, who kept his left going throughout to score points, and at times one felt that he could have raised the tempo anytime he wished. There were no knockdowns, the verdict being unanimous.
