1962-10-23 Dick Tiger w pts 15 Gene Fullmer, Candlestick Park, San Francisco, California, USA - NBA. Referee: Frank Carter. Scorecards: 10-1, 9-5, 7-5. Fullmer’s reign as the NBA champion came to an end as Tiger (159) took everything he had to throw and came back with more, having attacked from the opening bell. In the third round, Fullmer (160) was driven into the ropes by blows to head and body and in the fourth he was subjected to a non-stop barrage of heavy shots that took a lot out of him. Giving it his best shot in the eighth, Fullmer failed to halt the British Empire champion and it was all downhill thereafter. At the end of the ninth, with Fullmer cut over the left eye, he was allowed to carry on after being examined by the doctor but then picked up a badly cut right eye in the tenth. From here onwards Tiger just kept the pressure going to run out an easy winner.
