1962-10-23 Dick Tiger w pts 15 Gene Fullmer, Candlestick Park, San Francisco, California, USA - NBA. Referee: Frank Carter. Scorecards: 10-1, 9-5, 7-5. Fullmer’s reign as the NBA champion came to an end as Tiger (159) took everything he had to throw and came back with more, having attacked from the opening bell. In the third round Fullmer (160) was driven into the ropes by blows to head and body before being subjected to a non-stop barrage of heavy shots in the fourth that took a lot out of him. Giving it his best shot in the eighth, when Fullmer failed to halt the British Empire champion it was all downhill thereafter. At the end of the ninth, with Fullmer cut over the left eye, he was allowed to carry on after being examined by the doctor only to pick up a badly cut right eye in the tenth. From there onwards Tiger just kept the pressure going to run out an easy winner.
