1963-08-19 Kenny Lane w pts 15 Paul Armstead, Veteran’s Memorial Park, Saginaw, Michigan, USA - MICHIGAN. Referee: Lou Jallos. Scorecards: 146-143, 147-141, 148-143. Contesting the vacant Michigan version of the title, with Lane (134½) and Armstead (135) well matched it made for a good fight. Lane’s southpaw style bothered Armstead early on before the latter hit back to cut his rival over the left eye in the sixth. From then on through to the tenth it was closely fought as both men had their successes, but in that round Armstead suffered cuts over both eyes and was further stunned in the 12th by more solid punches to the head. Armstead came back to hurt Lane in the 14th before the latter took control in the final session with good jabs and uppercuts making sure he earned the decision.
