1963-09-07 Sandro Mazzinghi w rsc 9 (15) Ralph Dupas, Vigorelli Velodrome, Milan, Italy - WBA. Referee: Rolf Neuhold. Despite displaying every trick in his locker the champion was unable to keep the hard-punching Mazzinghi (153¼) at arm’s length, and as early as the first round he was floored for ‘eight’ by a left hook to the body. From that moment on, Dupas (152¼) knew he had problems and relying on his hit-and-run style he was able to survive for several sessions before being chased down and hurt in the sixth and seventh. Rallying somewhat in the eighth, when opening up a cut over Mazzinghi’s left eye, in the ninth Dupas was floored by a right to the head and despite rising at ‘seven’ the referee continued to count to ‘ten’. With Dupas on his feet at the finish, timed a 1.45, this has to be seen as a stoppage rather than a kayo.
