1964-01-23 Pone Kingpetch w pts 15 Hiroyuki Ebihara, Rajadamnern Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand - WORLD. Referee: Saard Kinsrisock. Scorecards: 71-68, 73-67, 71-73. This time there were no knockdowns as Kingpetch (112) jabbed his way to victory, never letting Ebihara (112) get his punches off and controlling the action whether leading or countering. Both men sustained eye injuries.

Early in December 1964, having not defended for nearly a year, both the WBA and WBC ordered Kingpetch to defend against the number one contender, the European champion, Salvatore Burruni. At the same time, the EBU were threatening to strip Kingpetch themselves if a deal was not put together immediately. The upshot was that Kingpetch and Burruni, who had lost just three times in 80 fights and was unbeaten in his last 57, would meet in April with the winner then taking on Ebihara.
