1965-03-05 Ernie Terrell w pts 15 Eddie Machen, International Amphitheatre, Chicago, Illinois, USA - WBA. Referee: Bernard Weissman. Scorecards: 72-67, 70-67, 72-66. Contesting the vacant WBA title, the 6’6” Terrell (199) scored an unpopular points win over Machen (192) when taking four of the last five rounds after it had been a fairly even affair up to that point. A solid left jab was Terrell’s beast weapon, but eventually Machen found a way of blocking the punch while scoring well with effective right-hand counters to head and body. Despite both men visiting the canvas, there were no knockdowns recognised, the referee feeling that they had more to do with wrestling than punching.
