Starting strongly, Tiger (158½) opened up a cut on the champion’s left eye in the second round and was always in control, often catching his man with several punches without reply. In the seventh Giardello (160), who was now cut on the right eye, was in danger of being stopped. Tiger made a terrific effort in the tenth to end matters, but after the 34-year-old Giardello fought back strongly he decided to coast through to the final bell.
