1966-06-28 Ernie Terrell w pts 15 Doug Jones, Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA - WBA. Referee: Ernie Taylor. Scorecards: 145-140, 146-141, 146-140. Making his second defence of the WBA title, Terrell (209½) proved yet again that his reach advantage, coupled to a solid left jab, made him a difficult man to contend with as the brave Jones (187½) found out to his cost. Even with two rounds, the second and 14th, taken away from him for low blows, Terrell continued to march on, dropping Jones in the 14th with a hard right to the body that was thought by many to be low but was not given. After the fight, Terrell claimed that he had damaged both hands on Jones’ head and that the cut on his right eye was caused by a butt in the sixth, while the latter was unable to overcome the left hand stabbed in his face and body with regular monotony.
