1966-07-15 Horacio Accavallo w pts 15 Hiroyuki Ebihara, Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina - WBA. Referee: Ramon Berumen. Scorecards: 300-293, 294-293, 299-291. In 15 rounds of skilful boxing, both men were cut around the eyes, and although Ebihara (111¾) was the faster of the two it was Accavallo (111¼) who controlled the pace. With the challenger well in the fight until the eighth round, Accavallo picked up the tempo to put his rival under constant pressure until the final bell.

Having successfully defended his title against Ebihara the champion took in two non-title fights before accepting the challenge of Efren Torres, an exciting, hard-hitting fighter who had won 44 of 48 contests, 30 of them inside the distance. Ranked number eight by The Ring magazine, although twice losing to Ebihara the Mexican had defeated Eduardo Mojica (twice), Pascual Perez and Leo Zulueta.
