1966-12-17 Ki-Soo Kim w pts 15 Stan Harrington, Changchung Gym, Seoul, South Korea - WBA/WBC. Referee: Yung-Soo Chung. Scorecards: 74-67, 73-69, 73-66. Making his first defence in front of his home crowd, Kim (153½) made a fair start to lead from the fourth round through to the eighth, before tiring in the tenth. It was then that Harrington (154), who had showed great stamina and a strong right hand, had his best spell of the fight before he was cut over the left eye on being butted in the 13th and forced to temporarily protect the damage. With Harrington still dangerous, Kim used a combination of hit-and-clinch tactics to get through the remaining two rounds and the unanimous decision in his favour was warmly greeted by the locals. Following his win over Harrington, Kim was challenged by Sandro Mazzinghi, the European champion, and stated that he was more than happy for the match to take place and the date was provisionally set for 9 June in Italy. Unfortunately, the fight did not come off due to the WBA insisting that Kim must meet Freddie Little, their number-one challenger, before all others and an uneasy truce between the WBA and WBC saw Mazzinghi set aside to meet the winner.
