1967-12-14 [[Raul Rojas]] w pts 15 [[Antonio Herrera]], Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - CALIFORNIA. Referee: George Latka. Scorecards: 7-5, 9-5, 7-6. Recognised in California as being for their version of the vacant title in the light of [[Vicente Saldivar]]’s retirement, Rojas (126) picked it up from the third, despite being cut on the left eye in that round, and occasionally dominated what turned out to be a rugged contest with solid hooks to head and body. Although Herrera (125½) lost he was never disgraced and in the seventh he twice staggered Rojas with head punches, but ultimately lost out after the latter came back strongly in the closing stages.
