1967-12-14 Raul Rojas w pts 15 Antonio Herrera, Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - CALIFORNIA. Referee: George Latka. Scorecards: 7-5, 9-5, 7-6. Recognised in California as being for their version of the vacant title in the light of Vicente Saldivar’s retirement, Rojas (126) picked it up from the third, despite being cut on the left eye in that round, and occasionally dominated with solid hooks to head and body. Although Herrera (125½) lost he was never disgraced, and in the seventh he twice staggered Rojas with head punches. In what was a rugged contest, Herrera ultimately lost out after Rojas came back strongly in the closing stages.

Following his win over Herrera it was announced that Rojas, the WBA’s number-one contender, would meet Enrique Higgins to settle their version of the title.
