1968-03-28 Raul Rojas w pts 15 Enrique Higgins, Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Dick Young. Scorecards: 11-6, 10-5, 10-6. Recognised by the WBA as being for their version of the title following the retirement of Vicente Saldivar, Rojas (126) made a good start when getting on the offensive, while Higgins (125½) depended on a strong left jab. Going into the tenth it appeared that Higgins had the advantage due to his cleaner work, but Rojas, who finished with a badly swollen left eye, slipped in to top gear to land the decision and the title. Although the winner was pledged to defend against Frankie Crawford within 60 days, for whatever reason it never happened and both Rojas (l pts 10 against Shozo Saiyjo at the Olympic Auditorium on 6 June) and Crawford (l pts 10 against Roberto Andrade at the International Centre, Honolulu, Hawaii on 4 June) were beaten next time out.
