1968-06-24 Joe Frazier w rtd 2 (15) Manuel Ramos, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NY. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Making his first defence of the New York version of the title, Frazier (203½) had too much power for Ramos (208), despite the latter landing heavily with two cracking rights about a minute into the fight. Having weathered the storm, Frazier became the aggressor, landing four heavy left hooks to the head of Ramos to knock the Mexican over for the first time in his career. The second round was all Frazier as he smashed in left hook after left hook to the face of the hapless Ramos, who was eventually dropped near the end of the session. After beating the count and being saved by the bell, Ramos indicated that he was through for the night and retired before slumping on to his stool.
