1969-03-30 Hiroyuki Ebihara w pts 15 Jose Severino, Nakajima Sports Centre, Sapporo, Japan - WBA. Referee: Ken Morita. Scorecards: 76-66, 76-66, 76-66. Contesting the vacant title, despite injuring both hands, which included a fractured finger, Ebihara (111¼) landed solid blows to head and body as Severino (111) bored in and was a clear winner at the final bell. The South American was cut over the left eye in the ninth round and was fighting an uphill battle from thereon. Under WBA rules Ebihara was due to defend his title inside 90 days, but was given more time to allow his injuries to heal.
