1970-04-05 Yoshiaki Numata w pts 15 Rene Barrientos, Municipal Gym, Tokyo, Japan - WBC. Referee: Dick Young. Scorecards: 69-68, 72-71, 68-71. Using hit-and-run tactics, Numata (130) regained the title from the man he lost it to and proved he had learned the lessons from their earlier fight. Although Barrientos (129) continually bored in, apart from the seventh round when he took a left to the jaw Numata was not fazed. He even took the fight to Barrientos in the ninth, but failed to consolidate before going back to scoring points off the back foot. There were no knockdowns in what was termed a poor fight to watch.
