1970-07-05 Shozo Saijyo w pts 15 Frankie Crawford, Miyagi Sports Centre, Sendai, Japan - WBA. Referee: Yusaku Yoshida. Scorecards: 70-67, 71-70, 69-69. Although the fight had a cautious beginning, it exploded into action when the champion was dropped by a Crawford (125¾) left hook to the jaw for ‘eight’ before making it through to to the end of the first round under some pressure. Saiyjo (125½), now fully recovered, became the aggressor in the second when coming back with left hooks to the body and right uppercuts to the jaw. From thereon, it was very much nip and tuck as both men tried to take the ascendancy. Little in it by the tenth, the pattern remained the same through to the final bell as Saiyjo temporarily held off the aggressive Crawford with his left before both men traded punches to the head and body.
