1970-10-22 Masao Ohba w rsc 13 (15) Berkrerk Chartvanchai, Nihon University Auditorium, Tokyo, Japan - WBA. Referee: Enrique Jimenez. After five attempts at making the weight the weakened Chartvanchai (112) was never able to find the range, being consistently countered by left and right hooks from Ohba (112). To add to his woes, the champion was cut over the left eye in the sixth round. Behind on points, he was floored by a left hook in the 13th, and on getting to his feet he was immediately dropped again to be rescued by the referee in the act of rising on the 2.16 mark.

Having outpointed Bernabe Villacampo over 12 rounds in Caracas, Venezuela on 21 December, Betulio Gonzalez earned himself a crack at Ohba. The reigning Venezuelan champion, he had also beaten Nelson Alarcon, Ramon Bravo, Nestor Jimenez and Ignacio Espinal. With a record of 25 wins in 28 contests, having reversed both of his defeats, he also had a good percentage of inside the distance victories.
