1971-03-06 Bruno Arcari w pts 15 Joao Henrique, Sports Palace, Rome, Italy - WBC. Referee: Teddy Waltham. Scorecard: 74-68. Having the better of the early exchanges, the southpaw champion hurt Henrique (138¾) several times with solid lefts before opening up a cut over the Brazilian’s right eye in the fifth, which saw the latter going in to defensive mode for a while. Arcari (139¼) himself suffered damage over the left eye in the ninth after a clash of heads, but he denied Henrique, the heavier puncher of the two, a chance of gaining the upper hand when fighting a rearguard action. In the 11th, Henrique was in trouble when battered against the ropes for a long spell, but he shrugged off the attack and in the 13th it was his turn to have Arcari on the run as he chased him around the ring, firing in heavy lefts and rights to head and body. Still under pressure in the 14th, Arcari called up his reserves to battle through the pain and drive his way forward and fully deserved the referee’s verdict following the final bell.
