1971-04-01 Masao Ohba w pts 15 Betulio Gonzalez, Nihon University Auditorium, Tokyo, Japan - WBA. Referee: Enrique Jimenez. Scorecards: 72-70, 72-70, 71-70. There was no doubt that Gonzalez (112), an aggressive dynamo of a man, came to fight and many booed the verdict after the judges sided with the better boxing from Ohba (111¾), who concentrated on his greater reach to pick up the points. That Gonzales was difficult to hit made it hard for a champion lacking his normal speed and sharpness, and when there were exchanges it was normally the South American who came out on top.
