1971-05-30 Yoshiaki Numata w pts 15 Lionel Rose, Prefectural Gym, Hiroshima, Japan - WBC. Referee: Hiroyuki Tezaki. Scorecards: 73-71, 74-72, 75-73. Making his third defence, Numata (129¾) just about got home against the hard-punching Rose (130), who although forcing the fight was unable to pin his rival down long enough to do any real damage. Always on the back foot and content to pick up the points with countering rights and combinations to the body Numata appeared to be just in front all the way, but there was far too much holding as he looked to stop Rose from getting any sort of rhythm.
