1971-06-04 [[Jose Napoles]] w rsc 8 (15) [[Billy Backus]], Inglewood Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WORLD. Referee: Dick Young. Having suffered a cut right eye in the opening round Napoles (146) soon put that behind him as he went in search of regaining his old title from Backus (145¾) and he gave the latter such a pounding in the second session that it seemed to be just a matter of time. Using a sharp left hand to set Backus up, Napoles cut the southpaw champion on the left eye in the fifth and before too long the right eye began to close. By the eighth, Backus was ready to be taken and after being floored twice, by a short right to the chin and then a left-right combination to the body, he was stopped on the 1.43 mark.
